Digital Photography

Throughout this course, students will understand the fundamentals of photography, and use what they have learned to produce quality imagery. By the end of the course you and your classmates will have had the opportunity to:

  • understand basic camera functions
  • shoot in manual mode on a digital camera
  • develop properly composed images
  • explore multiple genres of photography
  • use studio lighting
  • conceive, prep, and execute a large photoshoot
  • take images shot in studio and develop them into advertisements

Graphic Design 1

Graphic Design 1 expands on skills learned in the Photoshop portion of the Introduction course and moves students to vector based drawing in Adobe Illustrator. Students will be required to draw their own work (logos, posters, business cards, etc.). This is a great course for students wishing to pursue graphic design as a career with many assignments to add to a final portfolio.

Students are expected to learn:

  • drawing and illustration with Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop
  • colour theory
  • layout and composition
  • typography

Animation 1

Get animated! In the 2D-focused courses students work in-depth with Adobe Flash to explore and create a variety of animation styles including motion graphics, kinetic typography, web site animation, and character animation. In character animation students develop a complete rig and apply the fundamental principles of animation to develop convincing movements like head turns, walk cycles and speech. If you think you’re interested in animation, this is a great place to explore and try it out. For the more serious animator, it’s a great place to hone your skills and develop your portfolio.

Graphic Design 2

Graphic Design 2 focuses on print and web media. Through hands-on activities, students will develop concepts and solutions to graphic design problems. Using Adobe InDesign, students will produce a multitude of graphic design projects including: posters, page layouts, infographics and their very own magazine.

Students are expected to learn:

  • digital publishing using Adobe InDesign
  • layout and composition
  • typography
  • colour theory


NOTE: Graphic Design 1 is not required to take Graphic Design 2
